Themes for custom-made training
As a Works Council member you have to know and be able to do all kinds of things: know what is stated in the Works Councils Act (WOR), communicate with your colleagues, think about employment conditions, reorganizations and HR policy. Moreover, you are no longer just a colleague, but also a discussion partner of the director/manager. That’s a new role.
The possibilities of the Works Council are significantly increased if all members have the right knowledge and skills. Below you will find a large number of topics that we can cover in a training. Of course it is also possible to combine multiple themes in one training. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
- The Dutch Works Councils Act
You gain an in-depth understanding of the rights and powers of the Works Council according to the Dutch Works Councils Act, as well as of the use and application of these rights and powers in practice. Also covered is the role and function of the Works Council in the organization and its objectives and tasks. - Organization and way of working of the Works Council
Every Works Council develops its way of working or working method, both for itself and in relation with the management, director, and HR. It is important to know what a good practical working method entails and to address this together.
- Communication with the employees (your constituencies)
We examine how the Council communicates with its constituencies: all employees that the Works Council members represent. You gain insight into ways and concrete arrangements for the Works Council to (further) develop and improve effective communication with the employees.
- Effective meeting skills and decision-making
We pay attention to working methods that will enable the Works Council members to have efficient and effective meetings. We practice meeting and decision-making skills according to a powerful model of ideal decision-making. - Effective communication
Communication is key for working together properly. There are various techniques to improve your communication, like: (strategic) negotiation skills, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, transactional analysis (TA), and more! - Teambuilding and working together as a team
To work at your best as a team it is important to know and understand each other. Through team building and looking at individual qualities and team roles, you can discuss things in a light-hearted and fun way. We will discuss how this is reflected in your work as a Works Council. - The consultation/cooperation relationship with the director
A crucial aspect of the Works Council work is the consultation/cooperation relationship with the director. How can you shape this relationship and have a substantial influence on decision-making? The director and HR can be invited to discuss and align on this matter. - Employee participation in an international context
Works Councils in companies that are part of an international group with a foreign parent face specific issues. We discuss how these issues play out specifically for the Works Council and we look at ways to deal with them meaningfully and effectively. - Works Council and reorganization, acquisition, and merger
What is the role of the Council in a reorganization, acquisition, or merger? We address the formal role according to the Works Councils Act and how the Works Council can shape its involvement in these matters in practice. - Cultural diversity, labour relations, and communication
Nowadays, globalization brings more international people into the workplace. Often, we communicate differently because of our culture and specific background in labour relations, which can lead to misunderstanding. Awareness of cultural differences and related international differences in labour relations leads to better communication and cooperation. - Works Council and Health & Safety (Arbo)
We discuss, among other things, Health & Safety legislation and the Risk Inventory & Evaluation (RI&E). We also discuss how the Council, from a legal perspective, is and can/should be involved in (the organization of) the company’s health & safety (arbo) policy. - HR policy and the role of the Works Council
The HR policies of the organization are all about employee engagement and development. Changes to regulations regarding the HR policy often require the consent of the Works Council. We discuss the Works Council’s involvement in this and what you want to focus on. - Finance and the role of the Works Council
To assess the management’s policies and actions, the Council needs to understand the organisation’s financial situation. Where do we stand in terms of finances? How healthy are we? What are the management’s financial goals and what choices are being made?
